Can SciO be used to detect hard-to-see pests such as aphids on plants and foods, or in soil?

SCiO is molecular sensor that analyzes the molecular fingerprint of a homogeneous sample by scanning a diameter of about 20mm. Since pests may exist in one part of the plant/fruit/soil, and not in others, or too small even within the scanned diameter, SCiO may not be able to detect them.

    1. If I tested one small sample, I should be able to detect pests larger than .2mm, even if the pest is isolated to one section of the sample and not evenly spread throughout.  Is that right?

    2. If I scan a soil sample 20mm in diameter, how deeply does SCiO test?  If the pest is buried at a depth of 1″ or 3″, will SCiO detect its presence?
